After read Dunne & Raby's chapter 3 of "Design Noir".........The article shows that the electronic products influence not only our live but our emotion. It also indicates that many "conceptual " products gradually show up in this world and change our life. Moreover, the author mention that for those products, experiences and psychological influences have more importance than their service.
When I read this article, I am deeply touched. I majored in product design. I remember that our design need to be functional on every project. Therefore, I was always stuck in a problem: how to make my design work or have a fancy function. However, I forgot the most vital thing: a good product has to take care people's care. For example, in the article, the author shows that Berned Klosterfeld record sounds of live in CD for his loneliness after he divorce. Why did he record this? My answer is that the product see the desire of human nature: company. It also reflects the slogan of Nokia, "Connecting People". This sentence not only means their phone can connect with people, but indicate that technology always come from human nature. With our society developing, people care more humanity rather than machine. People hope that technology can help their life. However, "you can't have your cake and eat it, too". When we gain some, it also means that we are losing some.

After watched the Ira Glass on Storytelling 3 & 4........In this two videos, Glass wants to tell us do not be afraid to spent time and try and put your passion in your work. He says that many people give up in their producing process because they do not think that they can reach their expectation .
His words like a reminder for me. I am that person sometime rush to see my work to be high quality. I always set a high goal in my mind when I do something or design something. For example, when I do assignments, I will search that how the finished product I should do. I admit that sometime I give us that expectation higher than my abilities; therefore, if I cannot reach the goal that I give to me then I get depress. However, I forgot that everything need to be accumulated, so does the abilities. I always admire other people's work, but I forgot that if I want to do like them, there are a lot of efforts I need to make, especially I am not talented. So, take time, review and revise, and focus what you really interested in. Also, Glass reminds me that "good story" which come from interaction. It is to say that interesting thing always happen between people. That let me think of a variety show that I love in Taiwan. I found the explanation that why this show can be so popular after I watched the Glass's video. I think that it because the host give the space for each other and when one tell a story, s/he does not just tell, but throw a question to the other host, so the can have interaction then make the show active. After watched "Ira Glass on Storytelling 1 & 2"......
In the video, Glass does not only tell us that how to tell a story but show us that how to let your story attractive. However, writing a story is very detail. Storytelling is different to academic essay. When people write an essay or an article, they often give a thesis sentence and start to explain then follow examples. This is also how we learn from school. We have be limited that need to focus on what idea you want to show. Glass reminds me that as a person work in design or creative area, you should get rid of the set you learned in school. A good story contain various angles. Glass gives us a great example in the part one video. He tells a story but do not tell the specific event when he start. He describe the scene and the thing is happening like "He went down the floor. it is quiet. very very quiet.....". Although it is a simple sentence, it shapes the air and appeal audiences' eye to see the least story. I perceive that I am not a good storyteller and I know the reason when I finished this videos. Glass inspires me to explore more "anecdotes". I often to see that I have known. He tells that people do not afraid to know more and try. He says that people can just spend a lot of time to find a story. So, I should use his suggestion. I should be like sponge and absorb diverse story as I can. It would be the foundation to generate a interesting story. After watched the movie "The Five Obstructions"..... 1st obstruction-12 frame
2nd obstruction-Film in the worst place in the world but not show that place onscreen 3rd obstruction-Film in Brussels, using split-screen effects. 4th obstruction-Remake the film as a cartoon 5th obstruction-read a voice-over narration which been written by Lars von Trier. The Five Obstruction is not like the general definition of movie. It is more like a work processing which record the movie, The Perfect Human, was remade in five creative ways. It also gives audiences a chance to see that the new faces of the movie. After I watched The Five Obstructions, I went to watch The Perfect Human because I felt that it would makes me catch the differences between the five-obstructions versions and the original movie. Although the idea of movie were the same, when the movie portrayed in the different way then the feeling and atmosphere would be transferred by the photo-shooting techniques. My thought might a far cry from the thought that director wanted to deliverer, but I like the second and the fourth obstruction. In the second obstruction, I feel that "The Perfect Human" was in sharp contrast to the worst place. Although there was no the that place show on the screen, I believe that the actor (Jørgen Leth) would be more emotional when he was performing. The fourth obstruction version like a animation. It has a more modern technique and totally different from the black-and-white scene. It has more impact that the split screen was used in. Throughout the movie, the movie not only a documentary, but inspire us that one thing can make by different way. Although Jørgen Leth always complained that Lars von Trier gave him the impossible missions, when he made it, he loved and enjoyed that how to transform the work which he had thought it perfect. The movie also tells me that never limit yourself before you try. After watch the video "Everything is Remix"........ Social Evolution
Although the video erased my concern, it also give audiences a question. In the video, it shows that people can see other works in many successful music and movies. Those successful movie and music's creators also inspired by the other movie and music which they love. However, "Copy Right" is still a big issue. Some people advocate that the law should protect everyone's creative. It is a person's effort and wealth. Kirby Ferguson, the video's creator, has see the copy right in different ways. He thought that the "protection of legislation" would reduce a lot of excellent works. I am not sure which is good. Indeed, we should protect the everyone's idea, but how if the ideas were remixed other ideas, which or who we should protect? After read Austin Kleon's "Steal Like an Artist"......★Read deeply
★Stay open ★Continue to wonder ★Google it These four points give the article the best annotation. Before people begin to do something, they always to find some reference. I always do the same thing. For example, I did not know how to start my resume, so I search on the Pinterest, a famous website for find and post ideas, and got some ideas. After all the references were mixed up and revise, I had my own resume which was unique and different to any other one. I also search for some references, or I call them "suggestions" when I have problems in my life. Those problems, such as decoration, makeup, baking or outfit which I can find the tons of advice from who has done before. Thanks to their experiences and I had clues to trying those I did not know. People live in this interdependent world. Everything we see, touch or hear can be our reference, and that is how we learn from this world. In the article, Andre Gade says that "Everything need to be said has already be said". Everything has been done can become the "new" thing's cornerstone. As Isaac Newton said, "If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants". Therefore, people should not be afraid to search the world or take from the world. Instead, people should find something we love, interested, and enjoy and make them become our nutrients, so they can give more love, interests, and happiness in this world. After read Mike Rohde's "Sketching: the Visual Thinking Power Tool"....... Sketching is an useful tool for everyone. As a student in product design major, we used sketching to generate and communicate our ideas. Students had different ideas and wanted to discuss with professors; therefore, we expressed our thoughts through sketching. When our sketch stuck on the wall, professors can saw our ideas easily and gave our comments quickly and directly. After I graduated and got a design assistant position, my designer also used a lot of sketching in our discussion. We often sat front the meeting table and everyone sketched on their notebook and talk their ideas. When we decided a direction, we would keep sketching until a specific model has come up, then built the 3D model for our clients. Sometimes our clients used sketching to communicate their ideas as well. They felt that text could not deliver the ideas clearly, so they always attach their sketch in their email. Although my drawing skill is really bad, I will keep sketching to generate and express my ideas. Through the pen and paper, we can make our idea take shape. This is time to grab my pen and notebook and sketching again! After read Sunni Brown's "The Miseducation of the Doodle"...... "Doodling may be better described as ‘markings to help a person think.’ " If sketching is a generator, I think doodling is an organizer. Most people have doodled in their life. We draw maybe three stars to remind us that this paragraph is important, or we use different circle of colors to divide the topics we need to focus on. I used to saw many videos that teach people how to take organize note and study effectively and they all use doodle in common. Doodling is the way to help people read or find their own notes or key points quickly when they open the same book next time. Recently, I try to use bullet journal to organize my life. Bullet Journal is a kind of method of schedule. Users can create their planner by their own doodle. I feel that the bullet journal is interesting and useful. I can design symbols for priorities. For example, I use ">" for the thing has been postponed, so I can skip and to do things which are more urgent. I start my bullet journal only two months, but I believe that would make my life more organized. |
