I love Disney animation and the Ralph Breaks the Internet did a good job as usual. The movie is different from the other Disney movies but I guess that people can be more related to because of the main story and its background. They use the internet as the main track. Audiences are familiar with every scene in the movie. But, the great thing is that they metaphorize those scenes in humorous tone. The movie describes the internet as a city. The city is built by various companies that we all know. For example, the make eBay as a physical auction room. The roles can stand in front of the auctioneer to bid. A company, BuzzTube, is a YouTube-like site which people can upload their own clips or watch videos "in this place". Also, the awesome great part is the salesmen in this movie. In this internet city, the salesmen are everywhere. This image comes from those advertisements on webs. Those e-commercial shows when you browse webs. If they appeal to users' eye, they will click and go to the other webs.
In the Ralph Breaks the Internet , they make every virtuality visuality. It reminded me the SCAMPER practice we used to do. SCAMPER is a mnemonic that stands for:

This was my first time to know about teamLab when I went to the presentation at NYU Tisch. This event was for students who is looking for intern or full time job. I attended because Moe asked me to go and I was curious that what teamLab is and what they work for.
When teamLab people started to present and show their clips, I was surprised. Their projects was amazing. They combined digital with art and create a natural scene. That was not only a installations or videos, they were also with interactions. On all these projects, my favorite one is Plants. In this project, the space was projected a lot of flowers. The flowers would spread or accumulate due to different moments of people. For example, If a person stand in a place then flowers will gradually accumulate under and around the person's foot. People in the exhibition can also use their phone to create the various scene. If there were more people use their phone to sent that signal to the space, the space would be more stunning. The event not only showed teamLab's project but talked about how their team work and which skills that people should have in their team. For me, that was useful because I am always interested in the video art and I hope that I can work in this area. I guess if the video art interaction combine with commercial will benefit companies and entertain people and enhance the art appreciation of skill of people. From this opportunity, I feel that I learned many knowledge or /and facts of video art. It can not only help me prepare earlier for the course, video art installation, that I have next semester, but give me a choice for my future path. This week I found a tool, HackMD, which helps people to take notes easier and shareable. People can share the link to other people and let them can see or edit the note and make it better. I know it sounds like the Google sharing system, such as Google driver or Google doc. However, HackMD is special because its editing way. HackMD's interface is like a coding editor. The system combine with human-readable language and computer language. It improves the transitional word editors which users can only make change by the edit panel. For example, In the MS Word, I need to click the insert button to add a picture or link. When I insert a picture, adjusting the position always take me a long time. But the HackMD does not have this problem. Users can insert a picture whatever from your local or a web link. They can change the picture's position by edit the code. Therefore, users can control the layout freely. Moreover, they can insert not only picture but the web page by the html. I think this tool might change that how people take note. This system has existed in 2015 through current, but I just found it last week. I believe it might be the useful tool when I organize my note or life. Also, I believe there are many people have known this tool and use it for a while. I will try my best to familiar with HackMD and change to use this tool as well.
This exhibition is at the 6th floor in Whitney museum. The artworks are all about the digital art. I felt that every thing in the exhibition is fabulous and I have no idea how these artworks were made because I did not have that strong technology background. However, there were some artworks which touch me.
First one is Fin de Siècle II, which was made by Nam June. The artwork was used several different size televisions to create reconfigured sequences from previously broadcast television programs and art videos. I did not know why the artist designed this huge artwork, but the artwork let me rethought of the relationship between digital and art. I appreciate that although the televisions are play some different video, he can make them harmonious. It also let me review the projects that I have done before. Some look like I just want to add many cool stuff on it but did not consider about their conjunction and coherence. Therefore, I often feel that my work was not right but I cannot tell the reason. After I saw Fin de Siècle II, I will think more and make plan rather than enforce to put any thing on my work. The harmony would be the necessary when I start a project.
The other one is the New York Double Hung designed by Siebren Versteeg. This was also my favorite exhibit in this exhibition. This artwork was not only can be seen but can be touched. When people interact to this "equipment", they can feel the meaning of the "screens". Those collages were like the information which people need to receipt. On the screen, the information were various and giddy; however, out of the screen, there are enormous information wait people to see them to search them. It like the Google map. You can keep dragging the screen until you do not want to do. The art inspire me that interaction would be a good way to deliver your thoughts and ideas to people. When people have interaction with a project, it also build a connection with that.
The input will not be a thing which about design, inspiration or artwork this week. It would be more like chicken soup for me. My current life seems to be pursued by assignments and projects. I thought that I do not have time to learn new thing. My time only can be used for doing the academic project and I felt disappointed. Suddenly, I saw this TED video and his speech really inspired me and change my thought of the way to learn things and time management. Learning usually be a hard thing for me because it has to take me a long time. However, Josh Kaufman, the presenter, says that we can only use 20 hours to learn a thing. This was, in turn, my thought. He also gives people the simple 4 steps to practice and achieves it:
Due to the other class's project, I got a chance to use the laser cut machine. I was excited. I had never operate the machine by myself, so I can check this item on my to do list in my life. The first time I access the laser cut was a project I made in my senior year in my college. However, I did not use the machine. I drew the shapes in the software and sent to the vendor and they cut it for me. Therefore, I just knew I can use this tool but I did not understand how it work,so I had been laughed by the vendor because I repeat to draw a line so many times and make them need to postpone their working time. I can remember the vendor whose attitude like so much for a design student like you. I was embarrassed. But, I have the experience of using the laser cut machine. I felt that I can be more confident to face the project which need to use the lase cut.
After my friend and I had our brunch, we took a walk to the 9/11 Memorial. I did not expect that I would been there. The two pools of memorial is astonishing.
"The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest man-made waterfalls in North America. The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood. Architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker created the Memorial design selected from a global design competition that included more than 5,200 entries from 63 nations". This was my first time to the 9/11 memorial. When the attack happened, I was young and did not know that was a severe damage. Also, I felt that the US is a place far from me, so I did not have that much sense about this heartbroken event. After many years, I'm studying in the US, and got the chance to visit the Memorial. When I stood in front the north pool. I could feel the fear at the moment. The waterfalls design like the building fell down. Although I did not participate the process, the serious atmosphere had on my face. I went to the MakerSpace this Saturday for the 3D printer trainning. I have not tried to use the 3D printer though my college had one. While the technology develop, the 3D printer will be use in different areas and more and more ideas can be real! People also can find many 3D model on the website, like Thingiverse if you cannot build a 3D model by your own. Moreover, it can combine the Photographic 3D Model technology which I learned last week then people can be more convenient to make to duplicate something by their own. I cannot wait to try another model and let the 3D printer make it come true!
The workshop surprise me! I fount that we can just take photo an get a 3D model. I remember that when I worked in a design company, every model in 3D effect drawing which we needed to build by ourselves; therefore, we always spent a lot of time to make the model looks like what we wanted. Definitely, we always work overtime. The photographic 3D model software is a really convenient tool and will save many work time. It also can simulate more details of the model and let the 3D rendering more real. I guess that I would practice the photographic 3D software. It's not only cool, but, I feel someday I will use it on my work!
Due to the coding class, I feel that JavaScript is a cool tool. Although some design software can do graphic arts, JavaScript is interesting in totally different way. People give instructions to computer and the screen present the picture. The picture is not only can be seen but interactive. Instead of Photoshop or After Effects, JavaScript can do more visual that I cannot even think it could happen before. I love interaction which make everyone involved in and understand what ideas I try to express. I find some people devote themselves in this digital art area. They really inspire me and I hope that someday I will do that cool works as they they did. Top 21 examples of JavaScript ←Click. |
